When we become aware of the causes we can rally around one another and support the move forward to a happier and healthier society. If this sounds like a rainbows and butterflies type of message it is because through all of the research about ACEs the biggest message that needs to be heard is that there truly is a light at the end of the tunnel! To reach that light or to move closer to it the first thing we need to do is simply be aware. ACEs are happening all around you and while that idea certainly is alarming it doesn’t have to perpetuate. What was previously thought of as a “cycle of poverty” or “generational poverty” is now understood to be much more than that.
The good news is that teachers, caregivers, community groups, volunteers and family members are already acting as the positive support people that children with ACEs need.
They are guiding and facilitating the resiliency that children require to cope with any amount of stress that possibly comes their way. These people are crucial to the prevention of ACEs and are in a prime position to support and strengthen families. If there is nothing more that is taken away from this training let it be that ACEs is a societal problem that can be overcome by knowledge, awareness, and simple action. Please share this information with someone and encourage them to share it as well. The more people know about ACEs the closer we get to stopping their tragic effects.
